Colin Greatwood
From Midlothian, VA
I would like to consider myself a very well rouned person. All my life I have tried to strive for excellence in fields of varying difficulty that are all extremely different. I love music and engineering: my two main passions. Ever since I was a young boy, I have always enjoyed home improvement projects and Eagle Scout construction projects. This fostered an early appreciation of science and math in a hands-on environment that later contributed to my committment to FIRST Robotics and Mechanical Engineering at North Carolina State University. While I love my major and the extra-curricular activities that it has afforded me, I have always been a disciple of jazz music and musicianship. I started playing music in elementary school, but fell in love with jazz in high school. I participated and played in the VCU musical community all throughout high school by attending shows on Cary St, playing in school musicals, and creating my own band called The EJE or Eclectic Jazz Experience. Because of these influences, I have decided to study both Mechanical Engineering (Major) and Music Performance (Minor) on the Trumpet. My other interests outside of music and engineering include the outdoor activities such as backpacking, hiking, and camping, athletics and racing, triathlons, reading, cooking, the fine arts as a whole, and movie history.
