Barret M. Wessel Receives 2016 Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning Award

Barret M. Wessel of Elkridge, Maryland, recently was awarded a Love of Learning award worth $500 from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi--the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Wessel is one of 80 recipients nationwide to receive the award.

Wessel, a Fulbright Student Fellow currently studying abroad at the University of Southern Denmark, will use funds from this award to attend the Soil Classification Congress in South Africa where he will present the findings of the 8th International Acid Sulfate Soils Congress to the global soil science community.

Wessel was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi in 2014 at University of Maryland, College Park.

The Love of Learning program, implemented in 2007, grants 160 awards annually in support of graduate and professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, career development and travel related to teaching and studies.

In addition to the Love of Learning program, the Society's award programs give $1.4 million each biennium to qualifying students and members through graduate fellowships, undergraduate study abroad grants, member and chapter awards, and grants for local and national literacy initiatives.
