Javier Gonzalez-Sanchez Receives 2017 Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning Award

Javier Gonzalez-Sanchez of Tempe, Arizona, recently was awarded a Love of Learning Award worth $500 from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Gonzalez-Sanchez is one of 100 recipients nationwide to receive the award.

Awarded twice a year, the Love of Learning Awards are designed to help fund post-baccalaureate professional development for active Phi Kappa Phi members including graduate or professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, travel related to teaching and research, career development and more.

Gonzalez-Sanchez, researcher at Arizona State University, will use funds from the award to support a research project in the field of cognitive computing, which applies real-time neural state monitoring of cognitive and affective states.

Gonzalez-Sanchez was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi in 2011 at Arizona State University.

The selection process for a Love of Learning Award is based on the applicant's academic achievement, campus and community service, intended use of award funds as it relates to academic and career goals, and a personal statement. Each recipient will receive $500 to be applied toward post-baccalaureate professional development.

Established in 2007, the Love of Learning Program gives 200 awards annually. In addition, the Society awards $1.4 million each biennium to qualifying students and members through study abroad grants, graduate fellowships, member and chapter awards, and grants for local, national and international literacy initiatives.
