2013 Sep 3

Leigh Gleason of Riverside, Calif., recently was awarded a Love of Learning award worth $500 by The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi--the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. She is one of 147 recipients nationwide to receive the award.

Gleason was initiated into the Society in 2004 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She currently is the Curator of Collections at California Museum of Photography, University of California, Riverside. Gleason plans to use funds from the award for conference travel to "Workers and Consumers: The Photographic Industry, 1860-1950" in Leicester, England.

The Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning Award program was initiated in 2007 to help fund graduate or professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, career development and travel related to teaching and studies for active Society members. The Society's robust award program grants $1 million each biennium to qualifying students and members through graduate fellowships, undergraduate study abroad grants, member and chapter awards and grants for local and national literacy initiatives.
