Suresh K. Nagumalli Receives 2017 Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning Award

Suresh K. Nagumalli of Monroe, Louisiana, recently was awarded a Love of Learning Award worth $500 from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Nagumalli is one of 100 recipients nationwide to receive the award.

Awarded twice a year, the Love of Learning Awards are designed to help fund post-baccalaureate professional development for active Phi Kappa Phi members including graduate or professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, travel related to teaching and research, career development and more.

Nagumalli, graduate research assistant at University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM), will use funds from the award to reimburse his travel expenses to the South Central Chapter of the Society of Toxicology meeting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He will also use the award to support his chemometrics research at ULM where he is studying use of Partial Least Squared Regression to identify the active constituents responsible for myelostimulation by Echinacea.

Nagumalli was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi in 2015 at ULM.

The selection process for a Love of Learning Award is based on the applicant's academic achievement, campus and community service, intended use of award funds as it relates to academic and career goals, and a personal statement. Each recipient will receive $500 to be applied toward post-baccalaureate professional development.

Established in 2007, the Love of Learning Program gives 200 awards annually. In addition, the Society awards $1.4 million each biennium to qualifying students and members through study abroad grants, graduate fellowships, member and chapter awards, and grants for local, national and international literacy initiatives.
