University of Kentucky College of Arts and Sciences Phi Kappa Phi student awarded CURE Fellowship

The University of Kentucky Office of Undergraduate Research has selected 14 students for the 2024 Commonwealth Undergraduate Research Experience Fellowship program. Sponsored by OUR and the Office of the Vice President for Research, the CURE Fellowship program provides opportunities to develop knowledge and skills through research within eight of UK's Research Priority Areas: cancer, cardiovascular health, diabetes and obesity, energy, equity, materials science, neuroscience and substance use disorder. Students selected as CURE Fellows received a $5,000 stipend to support their research during the summer 2024 term. Fellows will engage in a research project under the guidance of a mentor. Students will interact with the other fellows in their cohort during the summer research period and present their research at the Summer Research Symposium on Aug. 27.

Autumn Payne, Phi Kappa Phi Member, Named One of Inaugural Stamps Impact Prize Winners

Autumn Payne, of Union, was named one of the 13 inaugural recipients of the Stamps Impact Prize, a new competitive award program at the University of Mississippi to support undergraduate-initiated, faculty-mentored research and creative achievement projects. The program is the first of its kind in the nation to receive a renewable $100,000 gift from E. Roe Stamps and his family, which is being matched by an investment from the university. Ole Miss students were invited to apply for the awards, which provide financial resources for their research projects.

Phi Kappa Phi member selected as regional fish and wildlife organization fellows

Two outstanding Mississippi State students in the College of Forest Resources were named Minorities in Natural Resources Conservation Fellows during the 77th annual Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies conference. To qualify for the fellowship, applicants must be current undergraduate students, graduates within the past 12 months or enrolled in a post-graduate program in select Southeastern states. Applicants also must have a career interest in conservation and natural resources and minimum 2.5 GPA and be at least 18 years old. The MINRC committee accepts approximately 25 fellows per year, and the application process is highly competitive. Fellows participate in discussions and gain information on selected topics relevant to seeking employment in natural resources fields. SEAFWA cultivates friendly relations and mutual understanding among officials engaged in natural resources conservation. It also promotes public understanding and appreciation of the importance of conserving natural resources and encourages the management of fish and wildlife resources. Brandon Kriplean, of Franklin, Tennessee, a senior international studies major at the University of Mississippi, has been named a finalist for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship. The Rhodes Scholarship allows students from around the world to study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom to complete their master's or doctoral degree.

Madeleine Dotson, a senior majoring in economics, Arabic and political science at the University of Mississippi, has been named a finalist for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship. The Rhodes Scholarship allows students from around the world to study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom to complete their master's or doctoral degree.

University of Mississippi Graduate and Phi Kappa Phi Member Ethan Lambert Selected as Portz Scholar

Ethan Lambert, of Corinth, who graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in May, has been selected as one of four 2023 Portz Scholars in the National Collegiate Honors Council's annual competition for outstanding undergraduate honors papers. Lambert won $375 and a free trip to present his honors thesis at the 58th annual NCHC conference in Chicago this November.

Phi Kappa Phi Mississippi State forestry students honored for leadership, academics

Mississippi State's Department of Forestry celebrated exceptional students at the annual spring College of Forest Resources Student Awards Ceremony, honoring undergraduate and graduate students for academic excellence. The department is part of the only nationally accredited educational program in the state for educating and developing future leaders in natural resources. CFR graduates enjoy a high rate of employment across the U.S. and Mississippi in an industry that provides almost 70,000 jobs and has a $13.12 billion economic impact on the state.
