Phi Kappa Phi KU student-athletes receive D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award

Kutztown University continued to set new department highs as a school-record 128 Golden Bears earned Division 2 Athletic Directors Association (D2 ADA) Academic Achievement Award status, announced by the organization on Tuesday. The 128 recipients breaks last year's previous record of 120. It is the third consecutive year that KU has set a new school record in student-athletes on the list. It is also the fourth straight year that the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) has the largest number of student-athlete honorees with 1,709 total. In total, there were a record breaking 16,639 student-athletes from 169 institutions recognized. The Academic Achievement Awards, in its 15th year, is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level. In order for a student-athlete to be eligible to receive an Academic Achievement Award, they must: have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have completed a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his or her last academic year.

Millikin Men's Golfer and Phi Kappa Phi Member Max Phillips Named All-America Scholars

Millikin men's golfer senior Max Phillips (Salem, H.S.) was named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for NCAA Division III by the Golf Coaches Association of American (GCAA) on July 21. To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2 and participate in 50 percent of the team's competitive rounds. Phillips averaged 78.47 while turning in an outstanding academic performance earning a bachelor's degree in Chemistry. Phillips will be returning to Millikin this fall to use his final season of eligibility and study in Millikin's MBA program.

Phi Kappa Phi Members earn academic honors from the ITA

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently unveiled its 2021-22 academic awards and Kutztown University was well represented. The Golden Bears were named an All-Academic Team and five players claimed Scholar-Athlete honors. A total of 110 NCAA Division II programs met the team grade point average (GPA) threshold of 3.2 to be recognized as All-Academic Teams. KU was one of six teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference featured on the list along with Bloomsburg, IUP, Millersville, Slippery Rock and West Chester. Kutztown's Jessika Klo (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom), Sarah Lazarchak (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth), Catherine Maher (Shillington, Pa./Berks Catholic), Claudia Makarski (Garfield, N.J./Paramus Catholic) and Brianna Wendling (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) were among 715 DII players recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes. To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must have had a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the 2021-22 academic year.

Millikin University, in conjunction with the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), announces the CCIW Dave Wrath Academic All-Conference team for Spring season of 2022. Each season the CCIW selects an Academic All-Conference Team. Richard Springer is a self-proclaimed introvert. The Biloxi resident was also the 2021-22 Associated Student Body vice president. Knowing this, he and close friend Grace Dragna came up with a mantra that would shape their time at the University of Mississippi: "Say yes to (mostly) everything!"

Angelo State Student-Athletes and Phi Kappa Phi Members Make LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll

Nearly 170 Angelo State University student-athletes have been named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2022 spring semester in recognition of their hard work in the classroom. A total of 168 Rams and Rambelles made the honor roll, including 64 with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Both totals are the fourth highest in the conference. Phi Kappa Phi Member at Angelo State Earns LSC Scholar-Athlete Award

Angelo State University student-athletes Sophia Berg of Georgetown and (Thomas) David Morgan of Lubbock have earned the 2021-22 Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete Awards for ASU. Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete Award to one male and one female student-athlete at member institutions. The winners are selected as representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership that are displayed on each LSC campus during the year. To be eligible, student-athletes must have competed at least two years in their sport and be members of the graduating class. Berg was the LSC Academic Player of the Year for volleyball and earned All-America and Academic All-America honors. She graduated summa cum laude in May with her Bachelor of Science degree in biology. Morgan earned track and field All-LSC honors and qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships, where he finished 15th in the 100 meters.
