The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi

Troy University recognized students for outstanding achievements in academics, leadership and service during the annual Honors Convocation on April 19 at the Troy Campus.

A total of 23 rising seniors were selected to join the Tassels Chapter of Mortar Board at the University of Mississippi.

Angelo State University's chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) national honor society recently inducted its spring 2021 class of 41 students during a special virtual initiation ceremony on Facebook. PKP is the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society encompassing all academic disciplines. Invitations to join PKP are extended to juniors in the top 7.5% of their class and to seniors and graduate students in the top 10% of their class. Ten University of Mississippi seniors have been inducted into the university's 2020-21 Hall of Fame, one of the highest honors afforded to students at UM.

Jazlynn Lewis of Bandera, a sophomore in the Angelo State University Honors Program, has been selected for a 2021 Fulbright Canada - MITACS Globalink Research Internship. Fewer than 100 of the fully-funded summer internships are awarded each year. Selectees will spend 10-12 weeks this summer working with research teams from across the U.S. and Canada on projects supervised by Canadian university faculty members. Lewis, an animal science major, will participate in a project titled "Understanding the role of blood flow alterations in the development of equine laminitis" led by Prof. Julia Montgomery of the University of Saskatchewan-Saskatoon. Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania students Laticia Feliciano and Serenity Vidot have been chosen to participate in the Frederick Douglass Research and Debate series presented by the Frederick Douglass Institute (FDI) Collaborative. The FDI Collaborative exists across the 14 universities of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education. This series is an annual event and is being hosted virtually this year. Submissions were accepted from students across all System schools and focused on social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion from all disciplines. Only 20 submissions were accepted to present.

The University of Mississippi selected 200 students to be honored among the 2020-21 class of Who's Who at the University of Mississippi.

Weeks after winning several statewide awards, YSU's student newspaper The Jambar is now receiving 10 national awards from the Society of Collegiate Journalists, including three first-place honors.

Seven members of the Angelo State University Belles volleyball team have earned Lone Star Conference postseason awards for their performances during the 2021 spring season that saw the Belles win their second straight LSC Championship. Five Belles earned LSC All-Conference honors, including Kailyn Gilbreath of Fort Worth being named LSC Player of the Year. Also earning All-Conference honors are Sophia Berg of Georgetown, Lindsey Ledyard of Cedar Park, Chloe Patton of Gillette, and Grace White of Helotes. Phi Kappa Phi recently announced its 2021 class of Dissertation Fellows. The ten fellows will receive $10,000 each to support their dissertation writing.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is proud to announce the recipients of the 2021 Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Research Grants. The grants of up to $1,500 were designed to support graduate students who are active Society members seeking funding for research in support of career development opportunities.

Isaac Martin, a senior honors student majoring in mathematics and physics, has received the prestigious Churchill Scholarship to study at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. He is one of only 17 students nationally to receive the award this year and is the sixth consecutive Churchill Scholar from the University of Utah. Martin's designation ties Harvard's six-year run of consecutive Churchill Scholars (1987-1992) and is second only to Princeton's seven-year streak (1994-2000).

ROME, Ga. - The Berry College student newspaper, Campus Carrier, recently won 13 awards for journalism excellence in the 2020 Georgia College Press Association Better Newspaper Contest. The newspaper received third-place award for general excellence in its division.

Frostburg State University senior art student Will Baxter has wanted to be a professional artist since visiting Disney World when he was five years old. He was named special "artist of the day" by a street illustrator and had the chance to sketch with an official Disney artist.

McKendree University senior Caleb Shipley has received the 2020 Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award as a Student Laureate of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois.

Frostburg State University student Jessica Thayer of Oakland, Md., has been named a Newman Civic Fellow, which recognizes and supports community-committed students. Thayer is a senior double majoring in law and society and political science and minoring in philosophy and is the Student Government Association (SGA) vice president.
